Dubai is a serious up and coming holiday resort and more and more Europeans are making the leap over for a change from the expensive beaches in France and Spain. Dubai has similarly fantastic beaches, along with unbeatable shopping, boiling weather and amazing hotels. You can also hire a car in Dubai with driver or simply go it alone.

Dubai now has so many landmarks that it's hard to known where to look next. There are huge hotels and large shopping malls all over the place, with the Burj al-Arab Hotel at the seafront the world's fanciest hotel. It looks like the sail of a ship and has a couple of helipads.

Other recent additions to the Dubai skyline are the fancy Palm Islands, including the Palm Jumeirah with its gorgeous houses, condos, malls, and Palm Monorail. For something a bit more old-Dubai you need to look to the Bastakiya district and the Shindagha district with their older buildings and rich heritage.

The most important mosque in Dubai, of which there are many, is the Jumeirah Mosque. It is huge, lies amid lovely grounds, and can be visited by non-Muslims. Be sure to cover up. Family attractions include the Dubai Zoo, a water park, and a ski centre, while many of the flashy shopping malls in town have kiddie attractions to boot. Hotels have all the nightly entertainment in Dubai.

For cheap car hire in Dubai, it is best to book ahead of time and pick up at the airport. Foreigners are allowed to drive in Dubai alone although having a driver is also popular. The nearby Fujairah emirate is a decent drive away and comes with good car rental and diving options.
