Location information for Altenburg Airport

Altenburg Nobitz Airport, also known as AOC, is a small airport in Germany used for flights within Europe. It is four miles southeast of the city of Altenburg. It is also only 25 miles from the larger city Leipzig in the state of Thuringia. There is one larger airport in Thuringia, but AOC is already serving 200,000 passengers per year with plans to grow that number.

Last year Altenburg Nobitz Airport underwent a name change as part of its marketing strategy. It is now officially called Leipzig-Altenburg Airport, but most people still refer to it as Altenburg Nobitz, as that is the name they have grown accustomed to. Cheap car hire from Altenburg Nobitz Airport (AOC) is convenient, with several options in terms of style.

Ryanair operates routes from AOC to Edinburgh, Gerona and London-Stansted. While local Altenburg residents use the airport, a good deal more traffic comes from the much larger city of Leipzig. Air travelers most commonly use AOC as a budget way to get from Leipzig to the destinations that Ryanair flies to. On average, 15 flights per day take off from the runway here. In 2004, they were up to 18-20 flights, but Ryanair has lowered frequency its flights.

During WWI the airport was a base for the early fighter planes. After the war, the airfield was held by communist Russia for 47 years. When communism fell in 1992, Altenburg Nobitz Airport began its commercial operation.

Cheap car hire at Altenburg Nobitz Airport (AOC) is a great way to get from one place to another in Thuringia and Leipzig. The region is quite straightforward with a number of highways that are easy to understand.
