La Maddelena, a scenic archipelago of islands recently designated as a national park, is where Giuseppe Garibaldi, a renowned Italian explorer and soldier, spent his last years on the island of Caprera, and where visitors may relax on Budelli's pink beaches.

Olbia's international airport, only 18kms south of downtown, is connected to the town's train station by buses driving between the two structures every 30 minutes. Ferries also often sail between Olbia and mainland Italy.
