Europcar offers free delivery service

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Car hire firm Europcar is making it easier for customers to rent a vehicle by offering a free delivery service to those who rent for two or more days. After the car is finished with, Europcar will then come and pick it up. The new service is called freeDeliver and, as the name suggests, it comes at no extra charge to the customer.

Europcar offers the service within a radius of 15 miles of any of its car rental stations. The company’s UK managing director, Ken McCall, said the service was unique and he believes it is what busy customers will appreciate because they don’t have to waste their time travelling to and from locations to pick up and drop vehicles off.

McCall added that the no strings attached service would set a new benchmark for the car rental industry. He went on to say that it was just one of the new initiatives Europcar would be introducing to win back the trust of the leisure traveller.

McCall said the service was already appreciated by the firm’s business travellers and that he was pleased that freeDeliver would now give time back to the company’s leisure customers. Europcar currently has 200 locations around the country and freeDeliver is offered to all those living within 15 miles of one of those locations. The car will be delivered to an address of the customer’s choice within a one-hour time slot as well as collected when the booking ends.

McCall said time was a precious commodity and now Europcar customers will have more of it.

Europcar launches Daimler car2go in Hamburg

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

As of March next year, the inhabitants of the German city of Hamburg will have a new mobility solution in the form of Daimler’s car2go. The two-seater smart car will be launched by Europcar with an initial roll-out of 300 vehicles. The car2go has already been successfully launched in Ulm in Germany and Austin, Texas in the US. Its Hamburg debut is part of a planned international launch.

Initially the cars will be introduced to the centre of the city, but if the scheme is a success more vehicles will be added and the reach expanded. Anja Hajduk, Hamburg’s Senator for Urban Development and the Environment, said people who constantly find themselves stuck in traffic jams, live near busy roads or who always have trouble finding a parking space will recognise the value of reducing the number of vehicles on the roads.

She added that the car2go scheme was ideal for those who usually employed another form of transport but who occasionally needed the mobility of a car. She went on to say the environmental benefits were obvious, pointing out the scheme had arrived just when Hamburg was named the European Green Capital.

The new car2go vehicles will feature engines designed to be economic with fuel and a solar roof which will contribute to charging the vehicle’s battery, powering the control panel and making sure the vehicle is constantly temperature controlled.

The car will be available for €0.29 per minute or €14.90 per hour, whichever is cheaper. This covers fuel, mileage, insurance and parking fees. An initial registration fee of €29 is the only additional price to pay.

Europcar reveals dormant urban motors cost

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

New research by Europcar has revealed that dormant urban vehicles are costing the public £65 billion.

Marketing Director of Europcar, Catriona Lougher, said that the research exposed how the nature of modern life has filled the cities with dormant vehicles. In the hope of solving the trend, Europcar has begun its free weDeliver service, in which motorists can have a hire vehicle dropped off at a suitable time and place and picked up again when they’re finished.

Parked vehicles along the UK’s residential roads are not an unfamiliar sight, however, the price of DUMs (dormant urban motors) was revealed to be £65 billion annually. Europcar’s new research states that city dwellers that own a car spend £3.50 for every mile covered, without the additional costs of fuel.

A typical city car owner is only behind the wheel for four hours and 40 minutes per week, which means that 97 per cent of the time the car remains immobile. Owners’ downgrade of their car along with the collective costs for fines, insurance, maintenance and parking equal a total annual cost of £5,328.96.

If there was an easy and suitable alternative to ownership, 48 per cent of car owners have said they would sell their vehicle. With the disposition of city life, 66.6 per cent of all car owners still choose to use public transport, walk or cycle to reach short distances and avoid the hassle of parking or traffic jams.

Europcar offers 50 per cent off for January

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

UK car hire firm Europcar has launched a new campaign following the New Year.  Throughout the month of January, the company is offering 50 per cent off, and will run for all of January and includes free delivery on car hires for two days or more.

The campaign is anticipated to boost sales at the commencement of the year, especially for holidaymakers who hope to book a last-minute weekend away.

New research has revealed that many families have been forced to cut back on the number of vehicles they own due to the recession and now the sale could bring savings for families who require larger vehicles for holiday or everyday use.

The month-long sale allows customers to hire cars for a longer period of time and save 50 per cent of what they would usually spend.  The deal from Europcar allows customers in need of a vehicle to obtain one without having to worry about the costs of maintenance or ownership.

The special offer is available for the month of January, but bookings must be made before January 31.  Reservations can be made from January 4 through to June 30th this year.  The offer is a fantastic way for families planning on a vacation sometime in the year to book in advance and saves on rental costs.

Marketing director for Europcar in the UK, Catriona Lougher, said the half price offer allows for car hire to become more affordable, enabling families to get on the road with less hassle.

Customers who wish to take advantage of the offer can visit Europcar’s website.

Britons use car hire for excursions and long trips

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

The current economic situation has forced families across the UK to be more prudent with their spending, affecting a range of business, especially the car market, as many families who used to purchase a second car beginning to opt out.

With few sales in the second hand car market, prices were dramatically reduced for the cars to sell.

According to latest reports on the car sales market, a new trend has begun emerging in the UK, as most people choosing to sell their family car and choosing to rent a car for family outings.

Hire cars are now being sought for occasional trips to the zoo, weekends away and Christmas shopping trips.

Many families are satisfied with the decision, as it provides them with peace of mind for the extra mileage that their car is not driving, as this doesn’t decrease the value of their car on the used car market.  Also, a rental car has far better fuel economy and is easy on the hip pockets and can be beneficial in the long run.  Car rental firms are excited by the prospect of more customers in the foreseeable future.

Car hire firm Europcar has said that about 68 per cent of respondents in a survey had already used a hire car for an excursion or a long trip in the UK this year.

About 49 per cent said that they have altered their driving habits, with 73 per cent saying they would make use of a hire car in the coming year.

Many customers are also opting to sell their car and make use of per-day car hire, known as car sharing, which can provide an cost effective and convenient alternative to regular car hire services, particularly for those who require hire cars for the short-term or on irregular occasions.

Europcar survey optimistic for car rental firms

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Worldwide car hire giant Europcar has released figures from a survey to discover the truth behind the habits of drivers, revealing that 8 out of 10 drivers have considered car hire as an alternative option to owning and running their own car.

It also revealed that 7 out of 10 people have also seriously considered the option of car hire in order to reduce extra costs during the credit crunch.

Increases in vehicle running costs, such as rising fuel prices, added to the current economic climate, has meant that many people are seeking new ways to save money on transport, with car hire proving to be a good option in some circumstances.

Many families with two cares have decided to do away with their second vehicle during the recession, and have opted to hire a vehicle as and when it is needed.  By doing this, the annual running costs of maintaining a private car are massively reduced.

The survey by Europcar also showed that 68 per cent of participants in the poll had hired a car for a holiday in the last 12 months, while the main reason for car hirers opting to rent a vehicle was in order to avoid extra wear and tear on their vehicle by renting.  Experts have also predicted that car hire figures are set to rise with 73 per cent of Brits opting to rent a car whilst on holidays in 2010.

New survey shows that Brits are more attached to cars than other Europeans

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

A recent survey by Europe’s leading car hire company, Europcar reveals that no one in Europe is quite as much in love with their car than a Brit. The survey was conducted across Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, France and the U.K. and found that whereas an average of sixty percent of Europeans polled could not imagine life without a car, nearly seventy-five percent of people in the U.K. would not wish to go on without theirs.

The survey of 5000 European drivers revealed some interesting results. Owning a car tends to be less expensive in the U.K. than most other European countries according to the results. However many of us are opting to save extra cash by using other forms of transport. One third of U.K. drivers said that they share cars and 62 percent say that they have updated the way they use vehicles in an attempt to cut down on fuel bills.

In the U.K. the figures for people opting to use a bike were fifty percent with twenty percent saying they might choose a motorbike. A massive ninety-five percent responded that if their car was taken away then they would be happy to do more walking.

It is also a good idea to pack the car with things to keep children entertained and content such as enough drink and food for the journey along with paper and crayons, wet-wipes for cleaning up, and pillows for snuggling into if the kids get tired.

Europcar also suggests that games are a good way to pass the time on a long autumn drive, including games such as word association games, car snooker and of course I-spy. Singing is always recommended, whatever the age of the people travelling, and a good stock of CDs with sing-a-long tunes on them is a must.
