Dollar and Thrifty to expand Pass24 toll service

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Rent A Toll, together with Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, made public its planned expansion of Pass24 Prepaid Toll Service to cover San Francisco and Oakland. At present, Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental offer its clients the Pass24 system for use in Texas only.

Pass24 allows drivers to utilize the express toll lanes at the bridges in San Francisco Bay Area and to avoid the cash-only lanes. With the prepaid toll service, car rental clients no longer need to carry cash or queue in line to pay for the charges. Drivers can also benefit from limitless access of all toll bridges in either one-day or weekly rate. The price for both San Francisco and Oakland are set to $9.95 a day or $39.95 a week, which already includes unlimited use of all the tolls.

To gain the full benefit of the Pass24 service, drivers need only to utilize those lanes that have the ‘FasTrak Only’ logo. The collection of toll fees is tied with the car’s license plate number, so the use of a transponder is not necessary. Video technology then captures and processes the toll payment as the vehicle passes through the marked lanes. Meanwhile, the service charge of using Pass24 is already included in the rental acknowledgment form when the car is returned to Thrifty or Dollar, thus eliminating the charging of toll fees on the customer’s credit card.

Currently, Pass24 service is available at the bridges of Carquinez Dumbarton, Antioch, Benicia Martinez, San Mateo-Hayward, Golden Gate, Richmond-San Rafael and San Francisco-Oakland Bay.
