Annual Road Sense campaign announced

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

The country’s number one car rental site has announced that it will be joined by road charity Brake in this year’s launch of the Road Sense campaign. An annual event organised by Carrentals.co.uk, the scheme aims to make motorists more aware of a particular area of road safety. This time it is aiming to encourage drivers to be more vigilant about checking the quality of their tyres and brakes.

Carrentals.co.uk boss, Gareth Robinson, explained: “During the winter, when UK roads are icy and dangerous, we want people to be sure to get their tyres and brakes inspected. By doing so we can all help to have a positive impact on the number of accidents on UK roads this year.”

The website is hoping that drivers will be encouraged to look after the maintenance of their vehicles at a time when families are still struggling with tight budgets. Brake is concerned about the number of accidents and deaths on the UK roads which involve younger motorists.

The charity’s director, Katie Shepherd, said: “It is an honour to partner with Carrentals.co.uk this year on the new Road Sense campaign. With Road Safety Week taking place in the UK Brake wants to encourage people to consider the safety of other road users, get their cars checked out regularly and to ‘have a heart at the wheel’.”

Mr Robinson added: “Brake and ourselves both have a common goal within the Road Sense campaign, that of lowering the number of serious accidents on UK roads.”

Car hire rates soar 30 per cent in EU holiday spots

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Carrentals, the leading car hire comparison site on the web, has released the results of a survey which reports that rates throughout the European Union (EU) have soared due to an increasing demand among consumers for car rentals. The average daily rental cost has increased by 30 per cent among the top 10 EU travel destinations, as compared to the rates in the same countries a year prior. Turkey saw the most significant increase, 76 per cent, and car hire consumers in that country must now pay a whopping £40.08 per day for car hire, on average.

Gareth Robinson, Carrentals managing director, said that the increase in rental costs is largely due to the inability of car hire companies to increase their fleet sizes to meet the consumer demand, as they cannot receive sufficient funding from banks. He went on to add that because of the small fleets, the prices over the past 12 months have become increasingly inflated in the most popular travel destinations in the EU.

In addition to Turkey, Spain and France have also seen a substantial increase in rental rates. Average daily rental in Spain is now at £33.19, up 40 per cent from last year, and £35.21 in France, an increase of 37 per cent from 2009.

Carrentals advises World Cup 2010 travellers on safety

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Carrentals.co.uk, the leading UK car hire comparison web site, is offering safety advice for travellers to South Africa this summer for the 2010 World Cup games. There will be thousands of visitors to the country looking to enjoy the football matches, and Carrentals wants to make sure every traveller can make the most of their visit by being safe and well prepared for any contingency they may experience during their trip.

According to Carrentals.co.uk managing director Gareth Robinson, the trip to South Africa should be fun, and his company wants to make sure that football fans take the necessary steps in preparing for the journey in order to maximise the benefits from being at the games. He went on to say that the guidelines the company sets forth are particularly beneficial to those who are planning to watch the games live in South Africa.

The first tip, and perhaps most important, is to plan ahead and make sure your Passport is valid and is not set to expire. Visiting the doctor prior to the trip is also fundamental, in order to get the necessary inoculations prior to entering the country. Health insurance was also highly recommended.

Carrentals also advised visitors to plan ahead and book car hire and accommodation well in advance. In additions, when travelling in the country with your vehicle, the website warned to make sure not to leave anything valuable inside when it is unoccupied, and always to park  in safe areas.

Carrentals.co.uk Raising the Standard forum launched

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Carrentals.co.uk has implemented an online forum as part of their ‘Raising the Standard’ campaign to assist customers in making their travel plans. The online car hire company is using the forum as a focal point to address customer concerns regarding car hire agreements, hotel and air travel rates, and everything else relating to travel.

The company hopes that the forum will provide accurate information to consumers which will not only help them find the best deals when making their travel arrangements, but also promote fair and honest service in the travel industry. Gareth Robinson, managing director at Carrentals.co.uk, said that there are many great deals available to consumers regarding travel, but there is an inherent risk in finding the best rates due to hidden fees and small-print conditions. Robinson goes on to say that the Raising the Standard forum will provide a way that consumers can get sound advice from expert professionals.

Carrentals.co.uk is joined by companies such as Questor Insurance, Fly.co.uk and Zintech, whose travel industry experts will provide advice and answer questions through the interactive portion of the web site. Questor Insurance representative Andrew Lawrence notes that the large amount of information available on the web is difficult for consumers to sort through, and the forum can help them understand policy specifics and get answers to any questions they may have.

The forum is available to anyone who wishes to register, and can be found through the Carrentals.co.uk site at http://forum.carrentals.co.uk. In addition to the question and answer area, the site also has a spot for travel blogs and downloadable documents containing advice on a multitude of topics relating to travel.

Travellers advised to check car hire policies in wake of ash cloud

Monday, April 19th, 2010

The recent stoppage of flights at major EU airports has led to thousands of stranded travellers, many of whom have had to cancel or change their car hire plans. Leading car hire providers have urged their customers to check the specifics of their rental agreements to make themselves aware of cancellation, delayed pick up, and rental extension policies.

As there is no set date as to when air travel will return to normal, the effect on travellers who have plans for car hire will continue to be significant. Gareth Robinson, Carrentals.co.uk Managing Director, recommended that since each provider has different conditions on rentals, all travellers with car hire bookings should become informed on their individual providers’ policies. Robinson went on to say that there have already been a substantial number of cancellations resulting from grounded flights.

Some providers have made special arrangements for travellers during the current crisis. One is now offering free cancellation to affected customers, with the rental provider is also willing to assist stranded travellers by offering favourable rates if they need rental extensions.

The ash cloud is a result of activity from the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull, which erupted on 14 April, and has since caused airport closings and grounded flights in the UK and much of Europe. Although there have been several safety test-runs by different types of aircraft through the ash cloud, there are no immediate plans to reopen the affected airspace.
