Cardiff launches car sharing scheme to reduce traffic
Cardiff has announced that it will soon launch a car-sharing initiative as part of the city’s ongoing attempts to reduce traffic congestion on the roadways. The scheme is set to begin in October, and will see the implementation of ten low-emission vehicles which will be able to be rented by Cardiff residents on a per hour basis, provided by firm City Car Club.
Coun Delme Bowen, transport chief for the city of Cardiff, said during an interview with the Echo that the car club initiative is another step by the city in its attempts to keep Cardiff moving and decrease the amount of city traffic. He went on to say that through the initiative, the city hopes to decrease the need for second cars among its residents, which will in turn free up parking spaces and reduce the amount of cars on the roads. Mr Bowen also said that by providing the vehicles throughout Cardiff, it will give residents an alternative to private ownership of autos.
James Finalyson, City Car Club managing director, announced through his firm’s web site that he is extremely excited to have the opportunity to head the car-sharing initiative in Cardiff. The posting on the web site went on to say that City Car Club is the most experienced car-sharing firm in the UK, and is proud to provide its services to residents and businesses in the city.
